Happy new year? The arts in 2016

The arts sector is keen to put the tribulations of 2015 behind us but how optimistic are arts advocates about what's in store for the coming year?

2015 exhausted the arts industry with its relentless swirl of Senate Inquiries, petitions and advocacy. But it had its compensations. As ArtsHub’s reflection of the year noted we learned how to be more united, more agile, more courageous and prioritise self-care.

The key question for the new year, is whether the the arts sector in 2016 can make the most of its united voice and prioritise growth and development.

‘We’ve spent so much time in 2015 on the financial struggle because we’ve had to – but instead of it being about bringing new partners into the arts, it’s been about rearticulating the purpose of government investment right back to government, championing the public good ourselves rather than making it together,’ Regional Arts Victoria Director, Esther Anatolitis, told ArtsHub.
