The ‘Death of the Bookstore’ was one of the catch-cries of 2011. With the demise of REDGroup retail and the closure of all Borders and most Angus and Robertson bookstores around the country some people in the book industry began to panic. The death of the book was said to be imminent.

But just as video didn’t manage to kill the radio star and the cinema industry refused to be run down by the advent of the VCR and DVD’s, the book industry is refusing to believe that technology and a diminished retail sector will mark the end of the book as we know it.
