There are hundreds of art prizes and awards in Australia today – a landscape that has no regulation. Understandably then, some are managed more ethically and transparently than others. To help artists manage this quagmire, Arts Law Australia has created a star-rated register.
‘In particular, Arts Law looks closely at how a competition deals with an entrant’s copyright and moral rights and consider this in light of the prize. By accepting the terms and conditions of a competition, entrants should be aware that they may be entering a legally binding contract,’ said a spokesperson for the peak organisation.
