The 2011 Christchurch Arts Festival was scheduled to be held just a few months after the earthquakes which devastated the New Zealand city.

The decision had to be taken whether to cancel or continue the show. ‘It was actually a pretty easy decision to make in the end,’ recalled Steph Walker, who was director of the festival. ‘In the realities of a disaster, you can’t wait to nourish your soul.’
