Position Summary
Brisbane Festival is recruiting for an emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Video Design Assistant Placement to join the Brisbane Festival production team. The role will work closely with award-winning Designer, David Bergman, on the planning and delivery of The Lovers as part of the 2025 Brisbane Festival.
This position is a paid role as part of the Brisbane Festival capacity building program, supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, that provides paid opportunities for emerging arts workers to develop their skills alongside leading artists and arts workers.
The role will commence in late July/early August on a part time basis, with hours increasing in late August for delivery of the project – contracted hours to be negotiated with the candidate in due course.
Roles and Responsibilities
Specific roles and duties will be tailored to the applicant, in consultation with their supervisor, but may include:
- Working collaboratively with the Video Designer, Director, Executive Producer, and the Technical Director, assisting in creation of the Video Design for the new production
- Supporting the Video Designer to provide guidance to the producer on preferred technical equipment options
- Contributing to the preparation of lists of equipment for rehearsal and production
- Attending rehearsals on behalf of Video Designer during August and September
- Attending design presentation meetings, rehearsals, and monthly production meetings and additional production meetings and performances as reasonably required.
Relevant Experience
Essential:
1. Being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent2. Identifying as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person3. Being accepted as such by the community in which you live, or formerly lived4. A team player who is passionate about design, the arts, events and safety5. Skills in technical production and video design 6. Ability to prioritise tasks and work to critical deadlines7. High attention to detail and strong organisational skills8. Knowledge of industry trends, technology and best practice9. High standards of written and verbal communication
