Technical Production Placement - Sound Design Assistant - FIRST NATIONS | AQ CAPACITY BUILDING

Brisbane Festival is recruiting for an emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Sound Design Assistant to join the Brisbane Festival production.

Position Summary

Brisbane Festival is recruiting for an emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Sound Design Assistant to join the Brisbane Festival production team. The role will work closely with award-winning Sound Designer, Guy Webster, and esteemed artist and story-teller Shannon Ruska on the planning and delivery of a range of Brisbane Festival projects. This position is a paid role as part of the Brisbane Festival capacity building program, supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, that provides paid opportunities for emerging arts workers to develop their skills alongside leading artists and arts workers. The role will commence in mid-late July on a part time basis, with hours increasing in August for delivery of the 2025 Brisbane Festival – contracted hours to be negotiated with the candidate in due course.

Roles and Responsibilities

Specific roles and duties will be tailored to the applicant, in consultation with their supervisor, but may include: ·

  • Working collaboratively with Guy Webster, assisting in creation of the Sound Design for an exciting large scale public art activation
  • Supporting the Sound Designer to provide guidance to the producer on preferred sound equipment options
  • Contributing to the preparation of lists of equipment for rehearsal and production
  • Attending design presentation meetings and monthly production meetings and additional production meetings as reasonably required
  • Supporting the Sound Designer to work to an approved budget and ensuring variations are raised for timely discussion with the Program Director and the Technical Director
  • Assisting in bump in and coordination of crew to support the production Sound Design.

Relevant Experience

Essential:

  • Being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Identifying as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • Being accepted as such by the community in which you live, or formerly lived
  • A team player who is passionate about the arts, events and safety
  • A fast learner willing to adapt to a proven system of production and technical practice
  • Knowledge of industry trends, technology and best practice
  • Work experience and/or studies in sound design
