The Opportunity 

Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a motivated and creative Public Arts Officer to support the delivery of engaging arts programs and projects across the municipality. This role is responsible for coordinating administration and logistics for exhibitions at Incinerator Gallery and offsite locations, supporting public arts initiatives, and contributing to a vibrant arts culture in line with Igniting Creativity in Moonee Valley 23–27, Council’s arts and culture strategy. The role also involves working collaboratively with a cross-functional team to share knowledge, enhance arts activities, and support community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver visual arts programs, exhibitions, and public art projects across the municipality.
  • Manage calls for proposals, selection processes, contracts, and budgets for community exhibitions.
  • Support artists, community groups, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality visual arts experiences.
  • Assist with gallery operations, exhibition openings, and front-of-house activities.
  •  Contribute to cross-Council initiatives and collaborations that support the arts.
  • Maintain accurate administrative records, ensure compliance with OH&S, risk management, procurement, and Council policies.
  • Support marketing and communications initiatives to promote arts programs and projects.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Community Cultural Development, Arts Administration, or Fine/Visual Arts, or possess equivalent work experience, and demonstrate hands-on experience in arts administration, public art projects, or gallery operations. You will have strong project management and organisational skills, with experience coordinating community arts projects, exhibitions, or public art initiatives. Experience supervising staff or volunteers, liaising with contractors, and supporting front-of-house gallery operations is highly desirable. A current Victorian driver’s licence is required, along with eligibility for Police and Working with Children Checks.
