The title of this series, Sang Tong – or the Golden Shell – comes from an old Thai folktale, in which a little boy, born into royalty, was abandoned only to be adopted by a giantess, who disguised herself so that the boy would not feel like an outsider. It is a universal story of adoption; the feelings of abandonment and recreation of self and surroundings as current today as when this ancient story was first told.
