Executive Assistant to five state gallery directors, Lindsay Brookes’ insights are golden

Retiring after 34-years at AGSA, Lindsay Brookes offers wisdoms on why organisational history is important, and the ‘sticky role an Executive Assistant plays in a well-oiled arts organisation.

Lindsay Brookes has worked under five past directors of the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA), including the role of Executive Assistant for four of them – a position she has filled for 34-years.

While that position affords her some great anecdotes, it also  demonstrates the importance of  capturing an organisation’s history when it comes to succession.  And, perhaps more so, gives a nod to the need to celebrate those ‘scaffold roles’ that are the armature of an organisation, holding it up – and holding it together.
