University galleries step up in a shifting gallery landscape

The role of University Art Museums has changed dramatically in recent years. ArtsHub talks with three venues across three states to get a clearer picture of how they are punching above their weight

There is a network of galleries attached to our university and art schools across Australia. In the past, they have tended to accommodate largely graduate shows, exhibitions drawn from the institution’s collection, and shows curated by academic staff. They were well-oiled microcosms that existed largely in and of themselves.
