Exclusive: Brandis’ $275,000 grant to Melba bypasses scrutiny

Arts Minister George Brandis approved $275,000 in special funding to classical music label Melba Recordings without peer review or a competitive process, ArtsHub reveals.

Minister for the Arts Senator George Brandis

The funding was approved in April this year but no announcement was made. It was provided without peer review and outside of normal funding application scrutiny after Arts Minister George Brandis met with representatives of Melba Recordings.

In response to questions from ArtsHub the Ministry for the Arts stated, ‘There was no funding round or open application process.’
