Drawing from the wealth of talent from SCA graduates, the Fauvette Scholarships have cemented a strong reputation for quality in contemporary art. The recipients and finalists include some of the most prominent contemporary artists in Australia. These scholarships aim to support Sydney College of Arts (SCA) graduates to pursue a program of professional development through travel.
The judging panel for this year’s Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Scholarship includes Professor Julie Rrap, Rachel Kent and Judy Watson.

Professor Julie Rrap has been a major figure in Australian contemporary art for over 40 years. Since the mid-1970s, she has worked with photography, painting, sculpture, performance and video in an ongoing project concerned with representations of the body. Rrap’s works are held in every major public collection in Australia as well as in many corporate and private collections in Australia and overseas. She currently exhibits with Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney and ARC ONE Gallery, Melbourne. She is current Co-Director and Co-Chair of Sydney College of the Arts.
Rachel Kent has served as CEO of Bundanon since September 2021. Rachel is an experienced arts leader, art historian and head curator with extensive experience working with international museums and cultural institutions. Prior to her appointment at Bundanon, Rachel was the Chief Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) Australia and has presented exhibitions in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the USA, and Canada, including major solo presentations by Do Ho Suh, Doug Aitken, Cornelia Parker, Yoko Ono and Grayson Perry. She speaks widely on the arts and culture, including TEDx, sits on editorial and advisory panels for industry and government, is the author of multiple award-winning artist monographs, and is an international juror for art awards in Asia and Europe.
Born in Mundubbera, Queensland in 1959, artist Judy Watson is a Waanyi descendant of northwest Queensland. Her ancestry and personal experiences have greatly influenced her
artistic practice, which spans a variety of media including painting, printmaking, video,
sculpture and installation. She often addresses the complex history of colonialism and its impact on Indigenous communities. She explores themes of migration, survival and recovery, seeking to bring awareness and understanding to these issues. Her work is a powerful means of truth
telling and a form of cultural preservation.
