The push for a new Brisbane venue may not be helped by the city’s latest theatrical success.

The Anywhere Theatre Festival has doubled its tickets sales over 250 performances held in cafes, warehouses, parks, alleyways, record stores and even private houses – anywhere but theatres.

Performers are delighted by the model which allows them to retain takings they normally pay to rent limited venues; the range of neighbourhood venues draws audiences that may not venture to city theatres and the atmospherics of alleys and riverbanks obviates the expense of set design.
