Queensland budget slashes arts

Queensland’s arts funding has been slashed in another blow from the Newman government.

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman showed he was no friend of the arts when his first budget-related decision after election was to scrap the Premier’s Literary Awards.

Now in its first budget the Liberal National Government has cut $12.4 million from arts grants and withdrawn funding from special projects at the Gallery and Museum. Visual and performing artists will find it harder to survive as funding for many programs is withdrawn.
