Drawing ambition blooms at last

Australian Lucy Smith improved on her second place at last year’s Margaret Flockton Award for Excellence in Scientific Botanical Illustration by winning this year’s event in Sydney.

Smith takes home $5000 for her illustration of Nepenthes Petiolata, while second place and $2500 went to Edmundo Saavedra Vidal from Mexico for his rendition of Taraxacum Officinale. Smith said she was delighted to take top honours in her tenth-entry to one of the world’s highly regarded botanical illustration competitions.
