Last weekend, Damon Gameau walked away with this year’s Tropfest first prize for his short animation ‘Animal Beatbox.’ Better known for his acting roles it was Gameau’s second go at the prize, reaching the finals last year with his film One. So will we now see the launch of another directing career? Possibly. But he’s sure got a lot of publicity!

Tropfest is the largest short film festival in the world and makes an enormous contribution to the development of Australian film making talent. Anyone can enter from film school graduates to film enthusiasts. They may be encouraged to enter for the prizes, the kudus, the Dinosaur Design trophy. But the real lure of Tropfest is the hope of getting the attention of a huge audience of not just an interested public but a very interested industry.
