TMAG’s new Director is a scientist who loves art

Introducing Mary Mulcahy, the new Director at Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, who wants to put community first.

While Mary Mulcahy was not born in Tasmania, she has long called it home. That is why her recent appointment as Director of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) is so welcomed. However, the decision has not been part of the great ‘reshuffle’ delivered by COVID. Rather, it unifies many aspects of her career.

‘I’ve worked as a scientist, but I’ve worked more as a science communicator. I also have a passion for art, so it’s kind of a nice package tied up with a bow,’ she told ArtsHub.
