Artists fleeing repression detained on Manus Island

Migration agent and whistleblower Liz Thompson, who was on Manus Island in the hours before the deadly riot that killed Reza Berati, has told ArtsHub of the presence of artists’ fleeing political repression as a result of their work.

One of the detainees is a well-known visual artist from Tehran who was forced to flee Iran after his work came to the attention of Iranian intelligence agencies, she said.
