From 2019/2020, the goal is to have women make up 50% of directors, writers and producers on projects that receive Screen Australia funding.

Over the past three years, 56% of projects receiving production funding from Screen Australia had women occupying at least half of the key creative roles – exceeding the organisation’s Gender Matters target of 50%, set in December 2015.

However, industry-wide data also released today show that women still make up less than half of the writers, directors and producers working in Australian feature film, television drama and documentary, except as producers on documentary and TV drama, where they are at or above parity. While there have been improvements in some areas, female representation has fallen in others, pointing to the need for sustained attention to equity.
