In the 11 years since Facebook was launched in 2004, the way we communicate and share information has swiftly transformed. Internet users now spend more time on social media platforms than on any other type of site according to a 2012 Nielsen report, while research by the Australian Communications and Media Authority notes that for most young Australians, the internet has become ‘a thoroughly integrated part of their everyday lives’ by the time they turn 17.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management.
