Drama & Acting for Film

Gold Coast | Part-Time | Approx. 4 days per week combined

Goat Track Theatre is growing — and so is our team.

As we move into an exciting new phase of growth across South East Queensland, we are seeking experienced, passionate and highly capable Teacher Artists to join our Gold Coast team.

We are currently recruiting across two complementary areas of practice:

ACTING FOR FILM TEACHER ARTIST

Currently approximately two afternoons per week, with significant potential for the role to grow as our Acting for Film program expands.

DRAMA TEACHER ARTIST

Teaching our established drama programs for primary and secondary-aged students, across approximately two days per week.

These positions could be combined to create a larger role of approximately four days per week, or appointed separately to two outstanding practitioners.

We are therefore interested in hearing from candidates who specialise in Drama, Acting for Film, or both.

Goat Track Theatre is a growing theatre and actor-training company delivering high-quality performing arts programs to young people across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast.

Our programs span drama, theatre-making, acting for film and performance, providing young people with pathways from their first experience of drama through to advanced performance and production opportunities.

THE OPPORTUNITIES

Acting for Film Teacher Artist

Our Acting for Film program develops young actors’ ability to work truthfully and confidently in front of the camera.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in screen acting, filmmaking, directing, screen performance training or a closely related professional field.

The role may include:

• Teaching Acting for Film classes for young people
• Coaching screen acting technique and performance
• Developing students’ understanding of eyelines, framing, continuity, listening and truthful on-camera performance
• Working practically with cameras, microphones and basic film-production equipment
• Supporting students to create filmed scenes and performance material
• Contributing to the continued development and expansion of Goat Track’s Acting for Film program

This is currently a smaller teaching load of approximately two afternoons per week, but we see considerable potential for this program to grow.

Drama Teacher Artist

Our Drama Teacher Artists work with primary and secondary-aged students across Goat Track’s established weekly training programs.

We are looking for an experienced drama practitioner who can confidently lead a room, build strong relationships with young people and deliver structured, engaging and artistically rigorous training.

The role may include:

• Teaching weekly drama and actor-training classes
• Working with both primary and secondary-aged students
• Teaching acting, improvisation, character, ensemble and performance skills
• Planning and delivering structured curriculum
• Creating an inclusive, energetic and disciplined classroom culture
• Monitoring and supporting individual student development
• Communicating professionally with students, parents and the wider Goat Track team
• Contributing creatively to the continued development of our programs

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for experienced practitioners who have worked with young people in the field of drama, theatre and film.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate professional competency in drama, theatre, acting, screen performance, directing, arts education or another directly relevant fields.

Just as importantly, you must have demonstrated experience working successfully with children and/or young people with all the required BlueCards and Working With Young People / Police Checks.

We are particularly interested in people who:

• Are confident and engaging facilitators
• Have strong practical knowledge of their artistic discipline
• Understand how to translate professional practice into age-appropriate training
• Can command a room while maintaining warmth, humour and connection
• Set high expectations for young performers
• Are reliable, organised and professionally accountable
• Communicate well with young people, parents and colleagues
• Enjoy being part of a collaborative creative team
• Are interested in developing their own practice
• Want to contribute to a growing performing arts organisation

Formal school-teaching qualifications are not essential. Relevant professional arts practice and demonstrated experience working with young people will be highly regarded.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

• Have demonstrated experience within a relevant performing arts or screen discipline
• Have demonstrated experience working with children and/or young people
• Provide a current CV outlining relevant professional and teaching/facilitation experience
• Provide professional references who can speak to their competency and experience
• Hold, or be eligible to obtain, the appropriate Working with Children clearance
• Be reliable and available for regular weekly teaching during school terms
• A reliable vehicle as travel is a component of the job

Appointment will be subject to appropriate reference and safeguarding checks.

ONE ROLE — OR TWO

We recognise that the strongest Drama Teacher Artist may not necessarily be the strongest Acting for Film Teacher Artist.

We are open to both.

The complete teaching load is anticipated to be approximately four days per week, but we are equally interested in hearing from exceptional practitioners who may only be available or appropriately experienced for one component of the role.
