Studio Manager

Mimili Maku Arts is seeking a Studio Manager to lead studio operations and support artists in a dynamic remote art centre on the APY Lands.

Mimili Maku Arts is looking for an experienced and motivated Studio Manager to join our team in Mimili Community on the APY Lands, South Australia.

Mimili Maku Arts is an Aṉangu-owned and governed contemporary art studio and cultural institution supporting artists working across painting, photography, publishing, new media, sculpture and experimental practice. Mimili artists are represented in major public and private collections and exhibitions across Australia and internationally.

The Studio Manager is a senior operational role working closely with the Art Centre Manager, member artists, studio staff and local arts workers. The role oversees the day-to-day running of the studio, including staff management, artist support, project coordination, art production and creative development.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who combines strong organisational and people-management skills with a genuine understanding of contemporary art practice. You will support artists to realise ambitious work, coordinate studio workflows and exhibitions, manage materials and freight, and mentor Aṉangu arts workers and studio staff.

We are looking for someone with:

• Experience in visual arts or a related creative industry
• Strong artistic judgement and the ability to recognise and support artistic development
• Experience coordinating staff and managing a small team
• Excellent communication, organisational and project-management skills
• Experience with arts marketing, exhibitions and/or sales
• Confidence working independently in a remote environment
• Respect for Aṉangu leadership, culture, language and community protocols
• A current driver’s licence and confidence with remote travel, including manual 4WD driving
• Basic Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator skills

Experience working in an Indigenous art centre, arts organisation, community development or intercultural environment is highly regarded but not essential.

Employment details

This is a full-time, community-based role in Mimili Community on the APY Lands, South Australia. We offer a base salary of $65,000-$75,000 + 12% superannuation, negotiable depending on experience and suitability, together with a generous remote-living package.
