Studio Director

Perform Australia is seeking a Studio Director to oversee all aspects of business and development at our acting school headquarters in Canberra
Perform Australia is a dynamic, passion-driven drama school committed to nurturing the next generation of performers. Our mission is to launch passion-driven actors – and to do this we offer high-quality actor training for adults, children and teens, with a focus on personal and professional development, creativity, and community.
We are now seeking a confident and strategic Studio Director to take the lead in managing and developing all aspects of our studio operations and educational programs.
Role Overview
As Studio Director, you will be responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of the studio. You will oversee the development and delivery of training programs, manage and inspire our team of educators and support staff, and work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure the smooth running of all business and administrative functions. You will play a key role in the financial health, growth, and creative impact of the studio.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Strategic Management
- Lead the business direction and growth strategy of the school.
- Monitor and manage financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and revenue streams.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including child safety requirements.
Marketing & Brand Development
- Oversee the studio’s marketing strategy and brand positioning to drive enrolments, build community engagement, and elevate the studio’s profile.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager and/or marketing contractors to plan and execute seasonal marketing campaigns, social media content, digital ads, newsletters, and events.
- Monitor marketing analytics to assess campaign performance and guide improvements.
- Ensure all outward communication aligns with the studio’s tone, values, and audience.
Education & Curriculum Oversight
- Oversee the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of all training programs and courses.
- Work with teaching staff to ensure curriculum quality, consistency, and alignment with student goals and industry standards.
- Ensure student progression pathways facilitate performer growth and achievement.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Recruit, onboard, and manage teaching and administrative staff.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and performance management to the team.
- Foster a supportive, passionate, and high-performing studio culture.
Creative Oversight of Productions
- Provide high-level creative direction and oversight for theatre and film productions, ensuring alignment with the studio’s artistic vision and training outcomes.
- Recruit and collaborate with directors, choreographers, designers, and production teams to support excellence in casting, rehearsal processes, and performance standards.
- Oversee the annual production calendar and ensure integration with the curriculum and student development pathways.
- Ensure all productions maintain a safe, inclusive, and professional environment for students and staff.
Collaboration & Operations
- Work in partnership with the Operations Manager to ensure effective scheduling, resource management, facilities, and student communications.
- Support customer service delivery and problem-solving, especially during busy periods or special events.
- Assist in setting and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) across all areas.
Community & Representation
- Represent the studio in the broader arts and education community.
- Build strong relationships with parents, students, industry partners, and collaborators.
- Lead or support showcases, events, and promotional activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven leadership experience in a creative, educational, or performing arts environment.
- Strong business acumen, with experience in budgeting, growth planning, and performance tracking.
- Experience designing or managing creative training programs or curriculums.
- Exceptional communication, team management, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and decision-making capabilities.
Desirable Attributes
- A background in performing arts, education, or creative industries.
- Familiarity with CRMs or scheduling platforms (e.g. Class Manager)
- Passion for actor training and artistic development.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and a growth-oriented approach.
