Social Media Manager

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is seeking a creative, strategic, and results-driven Social Media Manager to join our Communications & Content team.

THE ROLE
This role will lead the planning, creation, and execution of engaging content across all social media platforms to grow our community, strengthen our brand, and drive engagement and revenue. You will be the custodian of the Sydney Symphony’s social voice, crafting stories that celebrate our music, musicians, and programming and positioning the Sydney Symphony as a vibrant, relevant, and inclusive cultural leader.
From concept to post-performance highlights, you’ll oversee the entire content lifecycle – creating ideas, collaborating with colleagues, producing and publishing content, and reporting on results. You will also play a key role in connecting with audiences directly, fostering loyalty, engagement and advocacy for the Orchestra.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media Strategy & Management
- Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with organisational goals, audience growth, and brand positioning.
- Manage all SSO social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn.
- Ensure consistent and distinctive brand voice across platforms.
Content Creation & Campaigns
- Plan, produce, and publish engaging, platform-optimised content including video, photography, graphics, and copy.
- Lead content planning for evergreen activity and key campaigns, including concerts, education programs, touring and digital initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Artistic, Learning & Education, Development, Corporate Partnerships) to create content that supports organisational priorities.
- Coordinate with designers, photographers, videographers, and external partners to deliver high-quality visuals.
Community Engagement
- Actively monitor and respond to audience comments, messages, and mentions across all platforms in line with best practice and Sydney Symphony tone of voice.
- Build and nurture relationships with audiences, influencers, partners, and stakeholders.
Analytics & Optimisation
- Monitor, analyse, and report on social media performance, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
- Stay up to date with social media trends, tools, and algorithms, implementing innovations to improve reach and engagement.
Collaboration & Planning
- Maintain a social media content calendar to ensure strategic and timely posting.
- Lead cross-departmental social media planning meetings.
- Support the development of paid social advertising campaigns, tracking performance and ROI.
Other Duties
- Support wider digital content initiatives, including contributions to website, eDMs, and digital streaming platforms.
- Be available for occasional evening and weekend work to cover live events and performances.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing and growing social media channels for a brand, ideally in the arts, entertainment, or related sectors.
- Demonstrated experience creating high-quality, engaging content across multiple formats (short-form video, photography, graphics, copywriting).
- Proven track record in developing and delivering successful social media campaigns that drive engagement, reach, and revenue.
- Expertise in key social platforms and emerging trends, with a deep understanding of platform algorithms and best practice.
- Strong copywriting skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
- Proficiency with social media scheduling, analytics, and listening tools, with familiarity in SEO platforms and practices (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Later, Meta Business Suite).
- Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop and Premiere Pro) – preferred but not essential.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative, creative, and curious – always seeking new ways to tell stories and engage audiences.
- A love of music and the performing arts (encyclopaedic knowledge not required, but passion essential).
