Lead the brand, marketing and audience experience of Australia’s longest-running arts festival. For more than 70 years we have celebrated Perth, its people and its culture. Founded by The University of Western Australia and grounded on Noongar Boodjar, we are uniquely placed to champion the oldest living cultures in the world alongside contemporary arts practice – commissioning major new works and engaging diverse audiences year after year.

About the Role

As Marketing Director, you will provide strategic leadership across marketing, communications, publicity, brand, ticketing and audience experience for Perth Festival. You will develop and implement integrated audience growth, brand and engagement strategies that strengthen our reputation, increase attendance, deepen audience connection and support the Festival’s long-term sustainability.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and leading a team of 6, you will sit on the Executive Leadership Team, contributing directly to organisational strategy, business planning and Festival-wide decision making.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead Perth Festival’s marketing and audience development strategy, driving audience growth, attendance and revenue outcomes.

  • Act as custodian of the Perth Festival brand, protecting and enhancing our reputation and public profile.

  • Lead communications, publicity and media engagement, managing relationships with media partners and key stakeholders.

  • Oversee ticketing strategy, sales performance and audience experience, including accessibility and inclusion initiatives.

  • Lead digital marketing, audience data and analytics to drive data-informed decision making.

  • Oversee Festival publications, creative assets and the annual Festival brochure.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Marketing, Brand & Experience team.

  • Manage departmental budgets, contracts and supplier relationships.

About You

You are a senior marketing or brand leader with a track record of delivering integrated marketing and audience growth strategies, and leading high-performing teams. You’ll bring:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience in marketing, communications, brand management, audience development or related fields.

  • Proven success developing and delivering integrated marketing and audience growth strategies.

  • Demonstrated experience leading high-performing teams.

  • Strong commercial and analytical capability, including audience insights and performance reporting.

  • Experience managing media, publicity and stakeholder relationships.

  • Strong financial management and budget oversight experience.

  • Excellent strategic thinking, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience within arts, festivals, cultural institutions or major events.

  • A qualification in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related discipline.

  • Knowledge of ticketing systems and audience development strategies.

  • Experience leading digital transformation and audience analytics initiatives.

  • An understanding of publicly funded arts organisations.
