It’s a busy time of year for arts prizes, fellowships and funding opportunities, which can only mean one thing: we’re seriously considering starting a petition to ban the phrase ‘bold new work’.
What does it even mean? What makes something ‘bold’ anyway? Is it just about being the brightest, loudest parrot in the forest, and if so, what happens to those quieter works and projects?
