Gallery Manager

DADAA is seeking a highly organised, dynamic, and experienced Gallery Manager to lead the delivery of our DADAA Fremantle Gallery exhibition program.

About the role
DADAA is seeking a highly organised, dynamic, and experienced Gallery Manager to lead the delivery of our DADAA Fremantle Gallery exhibition program. With a strong emphasis on collaboration with external curators, artists, and community partners, this role is responsible for producing high-quality, inclusive, and engaging exhibitions that reflect DADAA’s commitment to social justice, disability access, mental health, and community engagement in the arts.
The Gallery Manager will oversee the end-to-end coordination of exhibitions, ensuring excellence in planning, installation, administration, communication, and audience experience. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a solid background in exhibition management, strong project coordination skills, and a passion for socially engaged arts practice.
About DADAA Fremantle Gallery
DADAA’s Gallery presents a year-round program of exhibitions, talks, performances, and creative projects. With a focus on inclusion and access, the Gallery is a space for socially engaged practice and dialogue around disability, mental health, and community diversity in the arts.
Key Responsibilities
Exhibition management

Manage the planning, scheduling, and delivery of gallery exhibitions.

Liaise with external curators, artists, and collaborators to coordinate logistics, installation, and deinstallation.

Manage artwork documentation, transport, and storage.

Ensure that exhibitions are delivered professionally on budget, on time, and in line with DADAA’s inclusive values and strategic goals.

Coordinate gallery volunteers and installation teams.

Maintain the gallery space and exhibition display
Stakeholder engagement and teamwork

Build and maintain positive relationships with artists, curators, arts workers, community partners, and visitors.

Use effective negotiation and communication skills to support positive collaboration.

Support audience engagement and outreach initiatives.

Gather and respond to audience and stakeholder feedback to improve gallery experiences.
Collaboration

Collaborate with DADAA’s Arts team and external partners on exhibition development and delivery.

Support collaborative projects, public programs, and workshops that reflect diverse community voices.

Facilitate artist involvement and inclusion in installation, public programs, and events.

Encourage collaborative approaches that reflect DADAA’s values of participation and access.
Promotion and Public Programs

Work alongside DADAA’s Arts and Communication teams to coordinate exhibition openings, events, and public programs.

Collaborate with the communications team on exhibition collateral, social media, website content, and promotional campaigns.

Plan and support associated events such as talks, workshops, and panel discussions.
Administration and Reporting

Maintain exhibition and artwork documentation and records.

Assist with reporting to funding bodies and stakeholders, including data collection and impact reporting.

Ensure timely and accurate documentation of visitor engagement and exhibition outcomes.
Health and Safety

Ensure compliance with DADAA’s health and safety procedures.

Support a safe working environment for staff, artists, volunteers, and visitors during installations, exhibitions, and public programs.

Attend relevant training and meetings as required.
Key selection criteria

Proven experience in managing the delivery of visual arts exhibitions including the coordination of exhibition installation and venue management.

Excellent project coordination, organisational, and administrative skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly within an arts context.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with curators, artists, arts workers, and diverse communities.

Experience in managing budgets, contracts, and exhibition logistics.

Effective problem-solving and negotiation skills to address program-related challenges as they arise.

A commitment to inclusive, accessible, and socially engaged arts practices.
Desirable skills and experience

Experience managing artwork transport, documentation, and condition reporting.

Knowledge of art handling and artwork display best practice within a gallery context.

Experience in marketing or audience development within an arts context.

Knowledge of access and inclusion strategies in gallery settings.
