Salary Range: $80,000 – $85,000 (Pro rata – 6 month contract)

Our mission is to foster creativity, cultural exchange, and artistic expression within the Barkly region, enriching the lives of residents and visitors alike through diverse programming, workshops, exhibitions, and community events.

Job Description: The Events Manager takes a leading role in the delivery of Barkly Regional Arts’ award winning Desert Harmony Festival and Territory Day events. The Desert Harmony Festival is produced and hosted by Barkly Regional Arts in Tennant Creek, NT. The festival is our region platform for our culturally diverse population to present and engage with the arts. Our predominately Indigenous community travel across the arid landscape to Waramungu Country (Tennant Creek) to enjoy a festival brimming with art, music and cultural activities. The festival program combines nationally and locally produced work that showcases the talents in the Barkly region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all festival operations and logistics.
  • Manage festival budget and liaise with Operations Director on all financial matters.
  • Collaborate with Winanjjikari Music Centre team and Music Manager to oversee festival programming.
  • Collaborate and liaise with community groups, individuals and organisations on festival programming and activities.
  • Management of festival production.
  • Collaborate with Comms and Events Officer to manage festival media and marketing.
  • Collaborate with Operations Director for reporting.
  • Work respectfully with all members of BRA staff.
  • Adhere to BRA’s cultural protocols.
  • Be responsible for the appropriate use and safe maintenance of vehicles and all BRA property.

EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT MANAGEMENT

  • With the Winanjjikari Music Centre team, lead, motivate and manage events staff
  • Act within delegations

PROMOTING THE ORGANISATION AND THE SECTOR

  • Uphold and portray the vision, mission, values, and strategies of the organisation
  • Ensure the organisation, its artists and communities are promoted and marketed effectively and that communications internally and externally are timely and effective.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Qualification and/or sound knowledge of festival management.
  • Experience working with artists and events.
  • Very good levels of computer literacy, numeracy and budget management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships.
  • Proven ability to achieve outcomes with a minimum of supervision and direction.
  • Excellent time and project management skills and the ability to work cooperatively in a team.
  • Good communication skills across diverse groups, including Indigenous communities, staff and management, government and other agencies.
  • Good level of cross-cultural awareness, sensitivity and understanding of Aboriginal culture, tradition and society.
  • Qualification and/or experience in collaborating with Aboriginal people living in remote communities.
  • Hold, or be willing to undertake a Working with Children Clearance Notice.
  • Current Driver’s License.

Desirable

  • Experience working with Indigenous people in a remote context
  • Experience working in an art centre setting
  • Technical understanding of art and art making
  • Experience working with creatives in a creative environment
  • Team leadership experience
