Creative Hubs Group Senior Arts & Screen Journalist

The Senior Arts & Screen Journalist is responsible for producing high quality journalism across ArtsHub and ScreenHub.

Employment basis:

This position will initially be offered on a three (3) days per week basis.  There may be an opportunity to increase hours and responsibilities by  mutual agreement as business requirements and organisational needs  evolve.

Overview of the role:

The Senior Arts & Screen Journalist is responsible for producing high quality journalism across ArtsHub and ScreenHub, including news  articles, interviews, features, analysis and industry-focused content.

Reporting to the Head of Content, the role requires a highly experienced journalist with established arts and/or screen industry  contacts, strong editorial judgement, and the ability to identify, pitch and  develop compelling stories that inform and engage our audiences.

As a senior member of the editorial team, the successful candidate will contribute to editorial planning, support content strategy initiatives, and  provide editorial assistance to the Head of Content and other senior  staff when required. The role will also contribute to maintaining CHG’s  reputation as a trusted source of arts and screen industry news, insight and commentary.

Key responsibilities:

Journalism and Content Creation:

Research, pitch and produce original news stories, interviews, features, profiles and analysis for publication across ArtsHub and ScreenHub.

Monitor developments across the arts, screen, entertainment and creative industries to identify timely and relevant editorial opportunities.

Develop and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders, artists, organisations, producers, publicists and key sector representatives.

Deliver accurate, balanced and engaging journalism that aligns with CHG editorial standards and audience expectations.

Work collaboratively with editors and content producers to ensure content is delivered to deadline and published efficiently.

Contribute content ideas that support audience growth, engagement and editorial objectives across multiple platforms.

Editorial Planning and Collaboration:

Contribute to weekly and monthly editorial planning processes.

Provide guidance and support to freelance contributors and less experienced writers when appropriate.

Contribute to maintaining editorial quality, accuracy and consistency across content output.

Support special editorial projects and strategic initiatives as directed by management.

Video and Multimedia Content (Highly Desirable):

Pitch, create and produce video content for publication across CHG websites and social media platforms.

Identify opportunities to expand audience engagement through multimedia storytelling.

Collaborate with video production personnel to develop compelling visual content aligned with editorial priorities.

Commissioning (Highly Desirable):

Identify opportunities to commission relevant and timely articles from freelance contributors and industry experts.

Brief contributors, manage deadlines and review commissioned content to ensure quality and relevance.

Skill and Experience  Requirements for this  function:

Essential:

Proven experience (5+ years preferred) in journalism, with significant experience covering arts, entertainment, screen, culture or related  sectors.

Demonstrated network of industry contacts within the arts and/or screen sectors.

Exceptional writing, interviewing and storytelling skills.

Strong sub-editing and proofreading capabilities.

Sound editorial judgement and a commitment to accuracy, fairness and journalistic integrity.

Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure within a small, collaborative team environment.

Excellent communication and relationship management skills.

Strong understanding of digital publishing, audience engagement and SEO best practices.

Ability to work independently while contributing positively to team objectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media, Arts or a  related discipline.

Experience producing video and multimedia content for digital  audiences.

Experience commissioning and managing freelance contributors.

Experience working in a digital publishing environment.

Knowledge of content management systems, analytics platforms and  digital audience development strategies.

Salary:

Salary range for full-time is $87,500 to $92,500 annually (Pro rata for 3 Days) + Superannuation

Location:

It is a three day per week role, based in Melbourne with hybrid WFH arrangements, or can be interstate for the right candidate.
