AV Production Assistant

RMIT's College of Design and Social Context is seeking an AV Production Assistant who can support the delivery of our annual program.

The College of Design and Social Context (DSC) encompasses RMIT University’s renowned art, architecture, design, built environment, communication, media and social science disciplines.

DSC Engagement delivers a rich program of public events, exhibitions and screenings that support RMIT’s research, learning and teaching activities. The team manages RMIT Gallery, Design Hub Gallery and First Site Gallery, each presenting a diverse range of contemporary art and design exhibitions featuring both established and emerging practitioners.

We are seeking an AV Production Assistant (and an Production Assistant, see other listing) to support the delivery of our annual program of exhibitions, events and related activities. These casual roles form an important part of the DSC Engagement team, contributing to the smooth and successful delivery of our projects.

POSITION SUMMARY

The AV Production Assistant will be responsible for supporting the delivery of an annual program of events, exhibitions, and other public and student engagement activities within DSC Engagement.

This position will work closely with the Production and Technical Coordinators in DSC Engagement to ensure a high standard of audio-visual production for exhibitions, installations, and events. They will contribute to the design and configuration of audio-visual installations, prepare content, and provide support to students with their installations and events on campus. This position will also be responsible for providing a safe environment for staff, students, visitors and contractors across DSC Engagement spaces.

The successful candidate will have experience in the planning, configuration, and installation of audio-visual projects within the arts, creative or events industry. The role is suitable for someone with a proven record of technical production, and availability for periods of two to three weeks throughout the year. This position requires a high level of organisation and attention to detail. A collaborative approach to working within a team is essential.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Under the direction of the DSC Engagement Production Coordinators, deliver production outcomes for DSC Engagement programs, exhibitions and events.
  • Prepare, install and de-install AV systems and equipment.
  • Design, configure and operate complex AV systems and equipment to general specifications.
  • Utilise various equipment and software to prepare and edit audio and video content.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of DSC Engagement’s inventory of AV equipment and materials and to the coordination of inventory storage and logistics.
  • In consultation with the DSC Engagement Production Coordinators, ensure that AV installations are delivered and maintained to industry standards.
  • Provide informed technical advice to curators, producers and exhibitors, noting these cohorts include RMIT academic staff and students.
  • Other duties as directed within the scope of this position description.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Demonstrated experience and technical skills relevant to the exhibition, display and presentation environment.
  • Demonstrated practical skills and proven knowledge and capacity to work with a wide range of AV equipment, systems, software and content.
  • Demonstrated high level of flexibility and capacity for lateral thought in practical problem solving.
  • Proven ability to work independently, efficiently and effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including students and academic staff.
  • Available for two-to-three-week periods during exhibition installation and deinstallation.
  • While not required, desirable qualifications include Workplace training – Construction Industry Basic Induction Training (red card); EWP certification for VL & Scissor under 11m; and First Aid certification.

QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant qualification in an appropriate field and/or equivalent relevant experience.
