Assistant Director - Engagement

Lead a team in Australia's oldest and most engaging regional gallery.

  • Permanent, Full-time opportunity with Monthly RDO
  • Band 8 salary from $113,068 to $125,539 per annum plus superannuation

The Role:

The Art Gallery of Ballarat is Australia’s oldest, largest and most engaging regional gallery. Housing a nationally significant collection of over 11,500 artworks and hosting more than 35 exhibitions and 200 public programs and events each year, the Gallery is a key driver of cultural tourism to the Ballarat region as well as much loved local icon.

We are looking for a dynamic, results focused, creative person to lead a high performing team to drive marketing, development and engagement activities at the Gallery. Overseeing a team that includes Development, Front of House, Education, Marketing and Public Programs the successful applicant will work closely with the Director and Assistant Director-Curatorial to progress the strategic plan of the Gallery. This challenging and rewarding role drives the delivery of the Gallery’s brand, reputation and profile to increase audiences and attract donors and sponsors

About You:

The successful candidate will have a

  • Demonstrated ability to obtain grants, sponsorship and undertake associated entrepreneurial, public relations and marketing activities.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and development skills including analytical skills and problem-solving skills of a high order.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage stakeholders, work with volunteers, engage in collaborative activities and undertake community consultation processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to fundraise and to create and deliver innovative and effective partnership outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively manage, coach, mentor, develop and motivate staff and promote an environment that supports team building, skills development and best practice
  • Extensive knowledge of the Australian sponsorship, philanthropic and donations climate.
  • Demonstrated experience in brand development and audience engagement strategies in an arts, events or festival environment.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering integrated marketing and communications campaigns for major events and exhibitions.
  • Highly developed negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the expectations of multiple stakeholders, prioritise tasks and achieve work targets within a high pressure environment.
