The Nargun and The Stars, a fantasy novel by Patricia Wrightson, is much loved and remembered by a generation of Australian children raised in the 1980s. It came to prominence after winning the 1974 Australian Children’s Book Council Book of the Year Award, and simply that it is still in print is testament to its popularity and timelessness. The book was responsible for introducing some mythological indigenous stories to thousands of Aussie kids. It also has a strong environmental message which is as relevant today as it was when the book was published 34 years ago.
SYDNEY FESTIVAL: Scott Wright & The Nargun and the Stars
Scott Wright co-founded visual and physical theatre company ERTH in Ballarat in 1990. The successful company is now housed in Sydney’s newest contemporary arts development, CarriageWorks. Their latest work, premiering at Sydney Festival before touring to Perth, is an adaptation of Patricia Wrightson’s children’s book, The Nargun and The Stars, featuring puppets, live actors, and digital animation.
