Artist Talk with Ruby Djikarra Alderton
Saturday 11 July, 11am
Join Ruby for a conversation about the works, the making, and the women behind Unwavering.

Ruby is a printmaker, painter, and filmmaker whose practice is shaped by Rirratjingu clan designs inherited through her mother, the late Banduk Marika OAM, and whose grandfather Mawalan Marika was a principal signatory of the 1963 Yirrkala Bark Petitions. Her early film work is held in the QAGOMA collection.

Unwavering, a major exhibition curated by Yolngu artist and printmaker Ruby Djikarra Alderton. Fourteen artists from Spinifex Hill Studio in South Hedland bring together their work to Perth.

The exhibition is a celebration of the unwavering strength and fierceness of Aboriginal women living in the Pilbara. Art centres like Spinifex Hill Studio play a pivotal role in the lives of Aboriginal and Islander communities: they are places of belonging, safe spaces for self-expression, environments for healing, and sites of generational exchange and learning.

Unwavering brings together works by Doreen Chapman, Gloria, Lena Willalang, Rekeshia Goodwin, Gladys Kuru Bidu, Denise Solly, Raylene Button Gordon, Maywokka (Mayiwalku) Chapman, Mulyatjinki (Muljadingi) Marney, Lorna Dawson, Crystal Gardiner, Daisy Tinker, Maggie Green, and Ruby Djikarra Alderton.

Exhibition runs 10 July to 30 August 2026.

Rowu (Morning Glory), Ruby Djikarra Alderton, 2026. Acrylic on Canvas, 40.5 x 76 cm.
