Create your own unique mask in this two session hands-on workshop with artist Kassandra. Design a mask to wear or display on your wall. You can bring your own ideas or choose from images provided by the facilitator for inspiration.

In session 1, you will sculpt your mask in clay and cover it with paper mache. In session 2, you will remove the mask from its clay base, then paint and decorate it using acrylics. Wearable masks will be fitted with elastic. Kassandra will guide you through every step of the process, demonstrating each stage of mask making. By the end of the workshop, you will take home a finished mask.

This program is linked to our Main Gallery exhibition, Woven from a hundred flowers: Celebrating our Nepalese community. The exhibition explores the rich culture and diverse stories of the Nepalese community of the Georges River region. This exhibition showcases the historical, social, and cultural background of Nepal while reflecting the vibrant and evolving Nepalese community of our area. The workshop will begin with a short visit to the exhibition, where we will look at the masks on display and discuss their shapes, colours and meanings. These works will serve as inspiration only. Participants will create their own original designs and will not copy the masks exhibited.

Woven from a hundred flowers: Celebrating our Nepalese community is on display from 1 May until 30 August 2026. For more information, please visit Woven from a hundred flowers webpage.
