Students of the class of 2011 are well into their summer breaks and many have found themselves with pitiful results, a nervous unsuccessful audition, or folios that aren’t quite up to the standard for the big name universities or the ‘dream course’ they have had pinned to their cork board for the duration of year 12.
Performing arts students striving for especially competitive schools such as NIDA, the VCA or WAAPA may find themselves at a particular loss should they fail to make the cut. But missing out on a number one preference can actually be a blessing in disguise. Smaller courses offer the chance to be a big fish in a small pond instead of the other way around, as well as offering close knit peer support groups and quality teaching.
