Library gets an $88.1m refresh with new creative spaces

The State Library of Victoria (SLV) opened its main entrance today after a landmark renovation including an Ideas Quarter and the original reading room, Queen's Hall.

The State Library Victoria has re-opened its iconic front door today (5 December) wrapping up a $88.1m development.

Opening the new building, Victorian minister for Creative Industries the Hon. Martin Foley said, ‘Libraries are more important and significant than they have ever been in this knowledge-based economy.’ Foley also observed that while the State Government had funded $60m of the bill, a further $30m was raised through philanthropy and private funding, indicating how beloved the library is by Victorians.
