Regional arts: edgy not on the edges

Regional artists struggle with distance, isolation and limited facilities but their creative output is far from marginal, as the vitality of the Regional Arts Australia Summit demonstrated.

Lee Harrop has driven 14 hours in a single day to deliver a work of art. For the Kalgoorlie-based visual artist the costs and complexities of transporting her work are a constant challenge.

Harrop has a successful national and international career. Her work is currently on display at the Drawn from Sound exhibition in Sydney and is part of the Imaginary Archive project, which was displayed in the Ukraine earlier this year and will show in Philadelphia next year.
