Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) invites Western Australian artists, curators, writers and creative practitioners to apply for a range of local, national and international residency opportunities as part of its 2027 Studio Program.
Designed to support creative development, research, experimentation and cultural exchange, the program offers opportunities ranging from short-term studio residencies in Perth to exchange programs in Taipei, Makassar and Western Sydney. Successful applicants will receive access to dedicated workspace, professional support, networking opportunities and, for exchange residencies, travel and accommodation support.
Opportunities Available
- Perth–Taipei Residency A 12-week international exchange with Treasure Hill Artist Village in Taipei, Taiwan. One Western Australian artist will undertake a residency focused on cultural exchange and the development of a new body of work to be presented in Taipei.
- BREEZE: Perth–Makassar Residency A two-week research residency in Makassar, Indonesia, for a writer or curator interested in researching and documenting the BREEZE exchange program ahead of the 2027 Makassar Biennale.
- Parramatta Artists Studios × PICA Exchange Program A reciprocal exchange between Perth and Western Sydney supporting artists, curators and producers to develop new ideas, professional networks and artistic research in a new context.
- Quick Response Residencies Short-term residencies of one to four weeks for artists needing space to experiment, test ideas or undertake focused project development. Open to practitioners across all disciplines.
- Hyper Local Residencies Extended five-month residencies for mid-career Boorloo/Perth-based artists developing significant long-term projects within a supportive studio cohort.
Who Can Apply?
Opportunities are available across different career stages and disciplines. Eligibility varies by residency, with opportunities available for visual artists, curators, arts writers, producers and interdisciplinary practitioners.

Applications close Monday 21 September 5pm (AWST) 2026. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of October.
