Yhonnie Scarce’s In Absence now permanently installed at Mona

Visitors to this year's Dark Mofo festival will be among the first to experience the monumental and moving installation in its new home.
In Absence Mona Yhonnie Scarce: a photo of a large ciccular ashen-coloured wooden tower installed amongst trees on the edge of a river which is Berriedale Bay in Nipaluna/ Hobart.

A stunning nine-metre-high timber tower installation by Kokatha/Nukunu artist Yhonnie Scarce and Melbourne architects Aaron Roberts and Kim Bridgland of Edition Office has been acquired by Hobart’s Museum of Old and New Art, and is now open to the public in its new permanent home overlooking Berriedale Bay.

Titled In Absence, the installation was originally chosen as the 2019 NGV Architecture Commission. It attracted strong critical attention at the time, and also received the Small Project Architecture Award at the National Architecture Awards in 2020.
