The Windmill Theatre Company will produce its first feature film next year with an adaptation from their stage production of Girl Asleep. The announcement was made last night at the opening of the Adelaide Film Festival by South Australian Premier and Minister for the Arts Jay Weatherill.

Girl Asleep will be the final theatre instalment in the company’s trilogy of comedic rite-of-passage stories that explore teenage experiences.  The first two works Fugitive and School Dance have been highly successful, with School Dance receiving the 2013 Helpmann Award in Best Presentation for Children category. The production also received nominations for Best Direction of a Play and Best New Australian Work.
