When the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT) started in 1993, our relationship with our region was a very different one. It was a time when Labor Prime Minister Paul Keating was deepening the focus of Australia’s foreign policies on Asia.

Asialink was established in 1989, the Asia-Australia Institute in 1990 and 4A Asian Australian Artists’ Association in 1997 – to name but a few cultural shifters.
