2011 was a signature year for the Winanjjikari Music Centre (WMC).
Winanjjikari means “singing for belonging” in Warumungu, the language of the
traditional owners of the land the music centre stands on.
Based in Tennant Creek in the Barkly region of the Northern Territory, WMC
is the music arm of Barkly Regional Arts (BRA) that provides music outreach
services to remote Barkly Indigenous communities and, in doing so, has made
a significant contribution to the preservation and promotion of Indigenous
language and music.
