It hangs off the face of a steep cliff perilously – a five-storey house hinged by engineered steel pins, floor upon floor tapering down towards an open-to-the-elements balcony, appearing as if to hover above the crashing waves below.

When prefab architecture specialists, Modscape, based in Melbourne, launched its concept for the Cliff House, the impact on headlines around the world was immediate and swift.
