Sydney Festival’s Creative Artist in Residence Jacob (Jake) Nash will depart after the 2026 Blak Out program; a new role has been created to replace him, Festival Director Kris Nelson explains.
L-R: Dancer, musician, composer, songman, didgeridoo player, cultural consultant and educator, Uncle Matthew Doyle and Sydney Festival's Blak Out curator and Creative Artist in Residence Jacob (Jake) Nash.

Creative Artist in Residence Jacob (Jake) Nash, who has curated Sydney Festival’s Blak Out program for the last four years, and contributed significantly to prior Festivals before that, will present his final Blak Out program in 2026.

Rather than replace Nash by appointing another Creative Artist in Residence, Festival Director Kris Nelson has instead announced the creation of a new role, Creative Producer – First Nations, to shape and drive Sydney Festival’s creative commitment to First Peoples’ representation in the coming years.
