The judging panel of the $30,000 Portia Geach Memorial Award hasselected a record number of 58 finalists for 2013.

Australia’s most recognised portrait prize for women and its trustee, The Trust Company, have announced 58 finalists – up from 55 in 2012 – from a total of 267 entries bidding for the annual prize.

Themes of individuality and identity explored through self-portraiture were prominent amongst entries for the award which goes to an Australian female artist for the best portrait painted from life of a man or woman distinguished in art, letters or the sciences.
