Whiteley’s The Armchair, Courtesy Wendy Whiteley; Source Menzies
Brett Whiteley’s painting The Armchair, Lot 42 in last night’s Menzies Art Brands Auction (31 October) in Melbourne, sold for a stunning $3,927,272 (including buyer’s Premium). Sitting within its estimate, it was a new record for the artist.
