Melbourne-made King Kong has giant gorilla-sized numbers as it packs up and heads for Broadway.

Since its much anticipated opening in June 2013 the made-in-Melbourne hit, King Kong has attracted audiences not only from all around Australia, but all around the world. Over 120,000 patrons bought tickets outside the Melbourne metropolitan area, with over 26 percent of total tickets purchased interstate or overseas.

The season was extended four times to cope with demand, before being forced to close due to demand from the global audience. Next stop: Broadway.

The Australian season attracted a large number of ticket buyers were from New Zealand, with significant numbers of tourists from the United States, Hong Kong and then Canada. Nationally, outside of Victoria, the top market was New South Wales, followed by Queensland and Western Australia.
