Clarence City Council has set aside $87,000 + GST for a work of contemporary public art to be integrated into the new Kangaroo Bay foreshore parkland/recreation zone at Bellerive. Any artist or a group of artists in Tasmania and beyond is invited to express interest in the commission by Wednesday February 6.

What’s happened is Clarence City Council has adopted a master plan for the development of the Kangaroo Bay waterfront, which will serve as a focal point for the life of the city. The work of public art is to set the tone of the residential and commercial development by creating a sense of place and identity and it will demonstrate the council’s dedication to providing high quality art projects in the public domain. Never before has the council provided such a sum for a work of public art. It is determined to set a standard for the development in a space that hosts several important arts events already with the promise of many more to come with an environment of the highest quality to support them.
