Senator George Brandis has attended his first official event as Minister for the Arts in the new Federal Liberal government.

Though he was launching the inaugural David Williamson Prize for excellence in writing for Australian theatre, he also approached the moment with a sense of history.

As expected, he began his speech by honouring the traditional owners of the land, and paid particular tribute to David Williamson, describing him as ‘our greatest living playwright, and dare I say, Australia`s greatest ever playwright’.
