One of Australia’s best known artists passes away in Italy, aged 91.
Jeffrey Smart, known for his precisionist interpretations of urban landscapes, is thought to have died peacefully of renal failure.
Born in Adelaide in 1921, Smart trained at the South Australian School of Art between 1937 and 1941 and later at the Academe Montmarter with Fernand Leger in Paris in 1949. While he was a talented painter, smart was also an art critic in his early days.
